  • Speculating on Whether Regehr Should be Traded by the Flames reggie

Based on a few comments on the Illegal Curve radio show, I put up a post on Matchsticks & Gasoline yesterday about the Flames potential to trade Regehr and why it’s time to do so.

    The article is posted here.

Below is an excerpt from the article.

“Now before everyone gets their guard up and says Regehr is [...]

Here is a study that I did for Hockey Prospectus on NHL Team Architecture.  Obviously since I posted it on HP, I believe they have a great site, so definitely take a look at some of the material from their other great writers too.

This is a story I posted on Matchsticks & Gasoline as part of our player preview series.  Come take a look at some of the other articles if you’re interested.

Rex Ryan may be the king of the F-bombs, but he better use as many as he can during the regular season.  The Jets won’t be making the playoffs.

The Jets used up all their luck last year.  There are no playoff-bound cakewalk games at the end of this season’s schedule.  Opposing kickers are all out [...]

  • What is Darrelle Revis Worth to the Jets? revis

Revis Island can be a lonely place for receivers.  At the moment it’s also a lonely place for a Darrelle Revis.  The man who was hands-down the best defensive player in the league last year is not practicing or spending time with his teammates, and it HAS to be a frustrating way to follow up [...]

The Weekly Serie A Espresso: Italian Soccer Round up

It’s been a busy soccer time in the land of pasta and vino. Serie A schedule has been packed and some very entertaining matches have taken place.

How about Milan’s collapse at Napoli? How about Juve’s collapse in Turin once again at the hands of the resurgent Napoli? How about Juve’s destruction of Sampdoria? However the one thing that has become very clear over the past couple weeks is the utter dominance of Jose’s Inter.

Inter are in a (Serie A) league of their own:

No matter how terrible they play in Champion’s League, Inter seem to be in a class of their own in Serie A. It is important to remember that no matter how well they do in the league, Inter owner/president Moratti has made it clear to Jose, the player and the fans of Inter that winning the Champion’s League is a priority. With this in mind, does it really matter how well they vs Livorno?

Mount Vesuvius erupted!

Another thing that has become clear is that the live on-air berating and subsequent firing of Roberto Donadoni by Napoli president and the most interesting and quotable person in the peninsula, Aurelio De Laurentiis, is the best thing that could have happened to the underachieving team. They have beaten Fiorentina, Juventus and Bologna and came from behind to draw Milan since the firing. Gulp. They have decent depth and their offence could be one of the best in Serie A. Looks like change have done them well. Also, how intimating is it to play at a packed and loud stadio San Paolo? Walter Mazzarri has them playing well.

Sampdoria ARE a one trick pony.

I heard a commentator say that Sampdoria are more than Antonio Cassano. If they are, they certainly aren’t much more than that. All the offence runs through Cassano. One, if not the, best passer in Serie A is either setting up goals, scoring them or attracting defenders thus creating space for Mannini, Pazzini and co. It is clear as the Mediterranean sea that when Cassano plays well, Sampdoria do well (see Sampdoria vs Bologna ) however the reverse is also true (see Sampdoria vs Bari ). It has recently came to light that Cassano is pissed off (imagine that) at the Doria fans that whistle when they (and specifically him) aren’t playing well. He has recently said that if the fans (mostly the Ultras) continue to hound the team, he will leave. Dear God. It is as obvious as a Mafioso in Sicilian suit store that if Doria loose Cassano they will struggle to be half the team they are now.
