  • What is Darrelle Revis Worth to the Jets?

Revis Island can be a lonely place for receivers.  At the moment it’s also a lonely place for a Darrelle Revis.  The man who was hands-down the best defensive player in the league last year is not practicing or spending time with his teammates, and it HAS to be a frustrating way to follow up [...]

  • Ponikarovsky Signing Gives LA a Line of Corsi Kings

For those of us that believe outshooting the opponent is the most surefire way to victory in the NHL, the LA Kings signing of Alexei Ponikarovsky should set off fireworks.

In his book, Moneyball, Michael Lewis referred to Kevin Youkilis’ as “The Greek God of Walks”.  For NHL GMs, Ponikarovsky could be Ukrainian for “Net-peppering Ninja”.

    I [...]

  • Sports Opinionated is 1 Year Old!!!

Exactly one year ago, I decided to start the Sports Opinionated blog over on Blogger.com.  The goal was to give myself a creative outlet to express my many views on sports, whether misguided or fact-based.

My goal when I started was to write 2-3 posts per week on anything that I was passionate about and to [...]

  • The NHL’s Most Intriguing Free Agents

Let’s put it this way.  I don’t give a flying puck where LeBron is going on July 1st.  I care about celebrating Canada Day and seeing where NHL free agents end up.  As a fan, there are always players that are more fun to track than others, since they could have a big impact on [...]

  • Published on Puck Prospectus: The Tomas Plekanec Contract

Here is the latest analysis I wrote for the great team at Puck Prospectus.  Feel free to read it over there with this link or continue reading below.

The reason I wanted to explore the contract value was the initial reaction so many people had to the dollar figure.  I personally felt it was WAY too much [...]

Top 10 Defensive Free Agents

Kyle Vanden Bosch - Meh....

Kyle Vanden Bosch...Meh!

10) Kyle Vanden Bosch
The oft injured DE is leaving Tennessee in hopes of landing in a new home.  By him leaving, it makes it the second season in a row that the Titans are losing a key member of their D-Line.
Possible Destinations: The Jags really need some beef on the line, as do the Falcons.

9) Gary Brackett
The leader of the Colts defence seems to have been given the cold shoulder from Colts management, and now he is left looking for a new home.  Smell that?  I smell a divisional rival lurking in the weeds.
Possible Destinations: The Titans will need a replacement for Keith Bullock, who coincidentally may end up in Indy.  It’s a 1-for-1 old guy LB trade.

8 ) Leigh Bodden
Leigh (spelled like a girl) just re-hired his old agent to help give contract talks with the Pats a kick-start before the 12am deadline is struck.
Possible Destinations: Most likely back with the Pats.  If not, watch where Robinson (#3, Titans or Vikings) ends up, and Bodden could go to the opposite place…or once again, Indy?

7) Ryan Clark
The Steelers showed Casey Hampton the money, and franchised a KICKER rather than wrapping up their starting safety.  That has GOT to be a slap in the face.  I mean…a KICKER over you!
Possible Destinations: While lots of teams throw cash at the top Safety available, my guess is that one of the lower ranked teams throw MORE money at him, and make him the centerpiece of a rebuilding defence.  This has T-Bay or Cleveland written all over it.  He would be a nice fit in Seattle, though.

Antrel Rolle - One of the top FA safety's.

6) Antrel Rolle
Even though he is not OFFICIALLY a free-agent, everyone is expecting the Cards to cut bait on Rolle rather than paying him $12M he would get in 2010.  If it was GUARENTEED that he would be a FA, I would have no problem putting him at #2 on this list.  Side Note: Cards are losing Rolle and Dansby after losing Warner to Retirement.  This may be a down year for the Cards.
Possible Destinations: Bears would be the front runner here, Giants #2.  Once again, you cannot count out the Titans or Vikes.

5) Darren Sharper
In the last 12 months, Sharper was let go by the Vikes, signed as 1 year fill in at Safety for the Saints, and then played his ass off, and in the process, lead the Saints OVER the Vikes in the NFC Championship game and eventually became a Superbowl champ.  Now, he can hit the open market again….although…..
Possible Destinations: I still think he comes back to NOLA, but if not, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Bears crack open the bank for the Superbowl winner.

4) Aaron Kampman
Kampman never fit into the 3-4 system installed in GB, and then proceeded to protest by wrecking his knee.  Now he is rehabbing to get back at the team that will not show him the Benjamin’s.
Possible Destinations: Teams love stealing from divisional rivals and the bears will need to replace Ogunleye.

3) Dunta Robinson
The man that wrote ‘Pay Me Rick’ on his shoes (A message to Rick Smith) was not given the contract he wanted by the Texans, and has now been set adrift in the NFL Free Agent Market.  Dunta has not been the same since doctors rebuilt a leg for him in 2008, although, I still expect the $8M man to get paid the big bucks.
Possible Destinations: The two top teams in need of a corner are Tennessee and Minnesota.  I think Dunta lands in Tennessee.  (Outside shot at Indy)

2) Karlos Dansby
Dansby is by far my favourite FA available, and would love to see him on my team.  The kid is still relativly young (28 years old), and can be the leader in the middle of any defence….except Arizona, apparently.
Possible Destinations: Miami would be the front runner.  Maybe New England after that.  I would like to see Cleveland build around him.

1) Julius Peppers
Julius is definitely the prized possession of the 2010 Free-Agency class.  He’s a VERY talented player than tends to take play, games, or even the entire 2008 season off.
Possible Destinations: Washington…But don’t all high-priced free agents go to Washington?  Otherwise, maybe the Eagles!

Karlos Dansby - Gonna make some team happy!

Buzz it!
