It’s just one last effort by the NFL to eke out some TV money, jersey sales and press coverage. The problem is that only works when the game is full of the NFL’s biggest stars. So Pete has it in the bag….Ryan is looking ok, but our hero (read: ME!) is not out of the woods! Sure, both Tonight Show hosts have infinitely more hair than chrome-domers like Marty and I, but Sports Opinionated has the football predictive skills of Kim, Maria, and Norma. We’ve been trying to sign Triumph, but he’s holding out for more things to [...] Am I unaware of an intense amount of blackmail, the back-stabbing that happens behind closed doors or just the sheer lack of judgement in NFL front offices? After this week, I would have to say ”all of the above”. Well, maybe not turned upside down, but it seems as though order was restored a bit, this week. For me at least. I spent the early part of this past week walking around like a zombie…like I had been [...] With one week under our belts, it doesn’t look like anyone on the Sports Opinionated staff knew their stuff. We were a collective 4-8 while our moms went 2-10. Personally, I felt a little like Alan Garner (Zach Galifinakis’ character) on The Hangover, lost and throwing out comments that had no relevance whatsoever. It’s a time where every analyst from ESPN to some random sports blogger (*cough*) can break down each game in every direction, and make gimmicky picks against their mothers. It is also a time of transition. The first Monday after the final game is widely known [...] Wildcard Weekend is in the bag, and judging by my picks in the Dignity Bowl, there were a few surprises. After all, I finished 1-3, and lost to not only my mother, but my girlfriend got in on the action for a side bet, and also beat me. Week 1 for me is more important than Christmas and my birthday combined. I spend hundreds of dollars every year to get to a football game, whether it is in Seattle, Arizona or Houston. I have over thirty NFL jerseys hanging in [...] There is always something intriguing about pitting professionals vs. amateurs in any field. In photography, amateurs often enter professional competitions. In boxing, there’s professional vs. amateur tournaments. Golf has its Pro-Am tournaments that are very popular.
